A New Magic Mushroom Shop in Toronto

Psilocybin-containing mushrooms, known as magic mushrooms, are a popular mood booster for more and more Canadians. Entrepreneurs and scientists are also exploring the possibilities of psychedelics as an alternative to pharmaceutical drugs to treat depression. But these hallucinogens are still illegal in many areas, including Canada.

A magic mushrooms Toronto Village is hoping to change that, becoming the first magic mushroom shop in the city and second in the province. The owners of Shroomyz are trying to create a professional image for the business so that regulators, law enforcement and governments see it as a legitimate retail operation, not as something illicit or dangerous.

Customers are asked to show their ID before they can buy, and are limited on how much of the product they can buy.

The store’s employees are trained in educating customers on the product and how it should be used. “We want people to take it safely, and have a great experience,” Gorbans said.

Mushroom hunting or picking is a centuries-old practice that continues today with mushroom enthusiasts in search of their favourite edible or psychoactive varieties.
